Tennessee’s 95th homecoming game in the program’s history kicks off at 4:00 in Neyland Stadium on Saturday. The Vols take on the Charlotte 49ers, a Conference USA opponent that enters the game with a record of 4-4. Tennessee needs to finish the year either 3-1 or 4-0 to be eligible for a bowl game. Saturday will be a great opportunity to get back in the win column before a stretch of 3 SEC games to end the season.
Charlotte quarterback, Chris Reynolds has completed 101-155 pass attempts for 1,181 yards, 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions this year. Benny LeMay leads the 49ers in rushing, with 141 carries for 745 yards and 6 touchdowns. In addition, Victor Tucker has made 46 catches for 566 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season. Charlotte’s offense averages 197.2 passing yards per game and 143 rushing yards per game. They score 22.8 PPG and allow 26.1 PPG, compared to Tennessee’s mark of 25.6 PPG and 29.6 points allowed per game.
Tennessee should be excited to play on Saturday, after a disappointing loss at South Carolina last week. The Vols are going to win this game, the only question is, “By how much?” I think it is safe to say that fans will see both Jarrett Guarantano and Keller Chryst play today and I also predict that the Vols’ defense will dominate and Tennessee will hold a large lead by halftime. Tennessee is 72-19-3 on homecoming all-time, so it should be another fun homecoming on Rocky Top.
